In this same manner a star athlete in a championship game focuses completely on mastering the moment rather than thinking about what will come after the game is won or lost. Here Lao Tzu similarly advises to put yourself completely into your work, strive to do your best, and let your mental focus not be clouded by thoughts of the fruits of your labor. Lao-tzus Tao Te Ching, or Book of the Way, is the classic manual on the art of living, and one of the wonders of the world. This Vedic classic advises one to release mental and emotional attachments to the fruits of one's labors. ![]() The Hindu text "The Bhagavad Gita" states a similar approach towards achieving peace when it comes to one's work. ![]() While there are several great business lessons in this verse (the first two lines may have inspired someone towards agile development), Lao Tzu ends this verse with the lines - Do your work, then step back.
